Longmeadow Rescue Ranch Update
Here Piggy, Piggy, Piggy
Longmeadow Rescue Ranch is going to the pigs. You
hear all kinds of noises when you’re at the Ranch
in Union, Missouri. Horses whinny, cows moo, and roosters
crow. The one sound you can’t miss is the oinking
of more than 100 potbellied pigs. Where did all those
pigs come from? In July, the Humane Society of Missouri
rescued 35 little oinkers and 32 other farm animals
from a property in Sainte Genevieve, Missouri. They
were living in unsanitary conditions without adequate
shelter and very little food.
Several of the rescued pigs were pregnant. A month
later, 74 piglets were born at the ranch.
Today, the potbellied pigs and piglets are ready for
new homes. “They are becoming friendlier, but
it is hard to give individual attention to so many,” says
Earlene Cole, Director of Longmeadow Rescue Ranch. “They
really deserve a home after all they’ve been through.”
The Ranch staff and volunteers are working hard to
socialize all the animals in their care. A lot of these
little pigs are ready and waiting for a new forever
family to adopt them. Click here to learn more about
the animals available for adoption at Longmeadow Rescue
Ranch.
