Humane Society of Missouri’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch helps rescue horse entrapped in shallow pond in Franklin County

A 4-year-old paint gelding, owned by Ed Sucher of Franklin County, escaped from his enclosure last night and became entrapped in the mud and ice in a shallow pond on a property south of Gerald, MO in Franklin County. The owner also had to be rescued by Franklin County EMS when he became stuck in mud while trying to rescue the horse.
Franklin County Sheriff Department called Earlene Cole, Director at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch around 7:30 a.m. this morning to ask for assistance. She alerted Missouri Emergency Response Service (MERS) to assist as well as Director of Rescues and Investigations for the Humane Society of Missouri, Tim Rickey.
The horse was successfully rescued with the help of six rescue workers from MERS and the Gerald Rosebud Fire Department. The horse was moved to a garage to be warmed up. Dr. Tanya Esther of Homestead Equine Veterinary Clinic was on the scene to evaluate the horse. The horse was reported to be standing upright, eating and drinking early this afternoon.
