The Humane Society of Missouri’s Longmeadow Rescues Ranch expands with new Gift Shop and Animal Care Facilities
June 4, 2008- The Humane Society of Missouri’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch is expanding its services to animals and people announcing the opening of the L Double R Tack Room and Gift Shop and two new animal care barns - Healing Bay Barn for rescued animal intake and care and The Playhouse to house rescued pigs, goats, sheep and fowl.
The tack room and boutique gift shop features horse and farm animal gift items for kids and adults as well as bridles, halters, grooming supplies and training tools. All proceeds support the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of horses and farm animals at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch.

Barn Buddies Animal Ambassadors to represent the ranch at Bark in the Park
St. Louis, Missouri, March 30, 2008 – Longmeadow Rescue Ranch, the horse and farm animal division of the Humane Society of Missouri, will be closed on Saturday, May 17 so that the Barn Buddy Animal Ambassadors from the Ranch may participate in the shelter’s annual Bark in the Park event at Forest Park in St. Louis. Mama Llama, Mini Moo, Scott (a horse), Pepe (a sheep), Quackers (a duck) and Paris (a hen) will tell their rescue stories (through their human interpreters!) and let Bark in the Park attendees get up close and personal with these special farm animals.

Bark in the Park is the Humane Society of Missouri’s largest pet event of the year. Pet owners and pet lovers alike are invited to bring their families and their dogs to Cricket Field in Forest Park for a one-mile dog walk and an afternoon of fun, food and contests on Saturday, May 17. Proceeds from Bark in the Park go to the Dr. Doolittle Fund that provides much needed veterinary medical care to the pets at the shelter so they can be adopted. Eagle Scout Makes Model of Longmeadow Rescue Ranch Barn for Project

March 10, 2008 - Gordon Younkin chose Zalk Rest Well Stables for his Eagle Scout model project.
The replica of Zalk Rest Well Stables comes complete with a lift-off roof, several stalls with windows that open to the outside and working sliding doors. Gordon's model even includes horses with halters, lead ropes and blankets. 35 mm film cannisters were used for water pails and small hay stems mimicked hay bales.
Becky Pemberton, ranch educator and animal specialist, will be using Gordon's model for future education programs at the Ranch.
Humane Society of Missouri’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch helps rescue horse entrapped in shallow pond in Franklin County
Thursday, January 3, 2008- A 4-year-old paint gelding, owned by Ed Sucher of Franklin County, escaped from his enclosure last night and became entrapped in the mud and ice in a shallow pond on a property south of Gerald, MO in Franklin County. Read more.

Tractor Trailer Loaded with 62 Cattle Crashes on Poplar Street Bridge in Downtown St. Louis
The Humane Society of Missouri’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch and the Missouri Emergency Response Service rescue cattle caught in double-decker trailer accident.
September 27, 2007 (St. Louis, Mo.) – Early this morning, a tractor trailer loaded with 62 yearling bulls crashed on the Poplar Street Bridge ramp from Illinois to westbound Interstate 70. The truck was headed to Axton, Colorado when the load shifted on the sharp curve of the ramp and the trailer overturned ending up balanced precariously over the rail. Read more.
